Sports Medicine
Keeping athletes moving strong and ready to return to sport better than ever.
We offer a specialized focus on athlete rehabilitation, with the goal of helping athletes return to the sport, not just regain full range of motion. Our physical therapists understand the mechanics of each sport and can help clients reduce their risk for future injury. Sports-specific treatment and programming includes: ACL (P)Rehabilitation, Blood Flow Restriction, Concussion Care, Corrective Exercise, Return To Play Functional Testing, The Movement Physical
ACL (P)Rehabilitation
Preparing athletes for ACL surgery, and helping them recover safely to return to sport
We offer ACL (p)rehabilitation services to both prepare athletes for ACL surgery, and help them recover from the surgery and safely return to their sport. Pre-hab can play an important role in the success of the post-op outcome by improving the athletes’ range of motion, strength, swelling, and posture.
During the post-op rehabilitation process, we work with referring healthcare professionals to create individualized programming specific to the client and their sport. Our partnership with the Under Armour Performance Centers powered by FX Fitness allows us to use state-of-the-art fitness equipment and turf to get each athlete get back to their peak performance.
Blood Flow Restriction (BFR)
Increase muscle growth, strength, and endurance, as well as improved athletic performance
Blood Flow Restriction (BFR) uses a safe, FDA-approved personalized tourniquet system, such as a cuff or wrap, that is tight enough to allow blood flow into the muscle, but restricts blood flow out of the muscle. During BFR treatment, clients are able to lift a lighter weight and achieve similar muscle growth to that of lifting a heavier weight. Using BFR after surgery can help deter strength loss and muscle atrophy. This treatment can also be used during strength training or post-workout recovery, and can lead to to increased muscle growth, strength, and endurance, as well as improved athletic performance.
Concussion Care
How Do You Recover From a Concussion?
It is imperative to properly heal from a concussion before returning to activity. Those that return to activity too soon may experience long-term effects including headaches, dizziness, attention problems, memory loss, mental illness. In rare cases, a second injury to the brain whilst healing from a concussion may result in brain swelling, permanent brain damage, and even death.
Corrective Exercise
Help retrain an athlete’s muscle memory and create the ideal movements for a specific task
Over time, athletes can develop imbalances or incorrect movement patterns while they perform that lead to injury. To fix these dysfunctions, we can prescribe corrective exercises that will help to retrain an athlete’s muscle memory and create the ideal movements for a specific task. These exercises may include correcting posture, strength-training to fix a muscular imbalance, creating symmetry in movement, and more.
Return to Play Functional Testing
Return to sport, safely
Return to Play Functional Testing is a research-based performance test that shows if an athlete is ready to safely return to their sport following upper extremity and/or lower extremity surgery (such as an ACL or ankle). These tests will vary based on the sport, as well as the injury your recovering from. We can see how well your moving and objectively determine your readiness to return to the field or court.
The Movement Physical
A “physical” just like checking in with your primary care physician, dentist, or ophthalmologist
This preventative screening can determine a client’s quality of movement, functional strength, and risk for injury. We encourage athletes and active clients to complete a movement assessment four times a year to catch any movement dysfunctions early on, before an injury can develop. Our goal is to keep athletes in the game–not warming the bench.
