Manual Therapy
Assess Movement | Mobilizes Joints | Manipulates Soft Tissues
Manual Therapy uses “hands-on” techniques to help assess movement, mobilize joints, and manipulate soft tissue (muscles, skin, ligaments). This approach can help increase range of motion, decrease pain or swelling, promote muscle relaxation, improve athletic performance, and more. Manual therapies we offer include: Cupping, Dry Needling, Joint and Spine Manipulation, and Myofascial Release Therapy
Cupping
Alleviate tightness, pain, and tension
Cupping is a form of manual therapy that can help alleviate tightness, pain, and tension. During a cupping session, special cups that create a suction are placed on the skin. The suction gently pulls the skin into the cup, encouraging blood flow into the tight area. This technique helps to hydrate and relax tissue for people with movement restrictions, chronic tightness or spasms. We can also use cupping as a form of functional soft tissue release and directly mobilize tissue restrictions. It can also be used in sports recovery.
Dry Needling
Promotes healing, eases pain, improves movement, strength, and athletic performance
Dry needling is often used to treat issues that occur between the interaction of the nerves and muscle movement. With this technique, a fine filament needle is used to pinpoint and treat the exact areas of neuromuscular dysfunction. Dry needling promotes healing, eases pain, and can help improve movement, strength, and athletic performance. It can be also help clients with acute injuries, such as muscle strains and sprains, as well as chronic conditions like low-back pain.
Joint and Spine Manipulation
Improve range of motion, mobility, reduce tone, and decrease muscle spasms
Joint and spine manipulation is a hands-on technique that uses small, quick motions to create a neuromuscular response and reset a pain cycle (reduce pain). This form of manual therapy can help to improve mobility and range of motion. Athletes sometimes seek out spine and joint manipulation to increase their mobility, reduce tone, and decrease muscle spasms. It can also be a useful form of treatment for neck, back, and low-back pain, as well as neck-related headaches.
Myofascial Release Therapy
Improving range of motion, encouraging blood flow, and lessening pain
Myofascial Release Therapy is a form of manual therapy that focuses on treating soft tissues, including myofascia–the connective tissue layered between the muscle and the skin. Myofascial release therapy can include massage or instrument-assisted therapies, with the goal of improving range of motion, encouraging blood flow, and lessening pain.
