Kayla Yi, PT, DPT
Physical Therapist
Dr. Kayla is a Doctor of Physical Therapy. Anything but conventional, her path to the profession is exactly what makes her approach to care so distinctive. Her Bachelor of Science in Pre-Veterinary Studies came from the University of Maryland, College Park. A decade working as a veterinary technician followed, where a love of medicine and patient care took root. From there, she went on to complete her Doctorate in Physical Therapy at the University of Maryland, Baltimore.
Along the way, Dr. Kayla discovered CrossFit and never looked back. She earned her CrossFit L1, L2, and CrossFit Kids certifications and went on to coach part-time at a local gym while competing at the local level. Strength training became a passion that led her to become a USAPL-certified coach. Life as an athlete opened her eyes to the benefits of manual therapy, eventually leading her to become a licensed massage therapist. Coaching, hands-on care, and lived experience all come together in how she treats every patient. Strength athletes and recreationally active adults hold a special place in her practice, where “movement in medicine” is a phrase she lives by. She also believes that every exercise is infinitely scalable to meet patients exactly where they are.
Outside the clinic, rugby has become part of her athletic home and community. Dr. Kayla has played with and served as team medic for the Baltimore Flamingos, an LGBTQ+ socially competitive rugby club. Her indomitable spirit was forged as an adolescent equestrian and continues to this day in CrossFit and in her daily life.
